Tax the Childless to Help Parents?

First, I learned a new term, school tax, in this debate---It is a kind of property tax and close related to an another term--school district. School districts are local governments with powers similar to that of a town or a county including taxation and eminent domain, except in Virginia, whose school divisions have no taxing authority and must depend on another local government (county, city, or town) for funding.

I have found the original article(http://www.slate.com/articles/news_and_politics/politics/2014/03/tax_credits_and_children_parents_should_pay_lower_taxes_and_childless_people.html) written by  Reihan Salam, who supports to tax the childless adults, because during his young age his parents were working extremely hard to raise four or more children. He sympathizes his parents and thinks that working parents' tax burden can be shifted to nonparents who earn more than the median household income.

The opponents in the NY Times Page listed several reasons:

  • Making living is also not easy for childless households.

  • "Everybody has the right to be let alone(to be childless)"

Unfortunately,I didn't find any data in Reihan Salam's articles about the % of tax burden needed being shifted to working nonparents. In my opinion, increasing taxes on any social class or group  ,more or less, will shrink or restrain the development of the class or group, which might let huge social changes .If working parents' tax burden have to shift to other groups, the possible outcome towards American society must be considered and % of tax breaks should be decided prudently.
